These soft and chewy apple butter cookies have swirls of apple butter running throughout, making them extremely flavorful. The apple butter adds deep fruity notes similar to those in apple pie, with caramelized apples and warm spices like cinnamon.
When baking, the apple butter keeps the cookies moist inside. They emerge having a lovely balance – chewy within but slightly crispy around the edges. Meanwhile, a topping of more apple butter icing brings bold flavor to each bite.
Using store-bought or homemade apple butter, the ingredients couldn’t be simpler. Just basic pantry items like butter, sugar and flour come together in no time.
As the weather grows cooler, these cookies embody all things comforting about fall. Their cozy flavor reminds me of warm cider and bonfires under starry skies.
Hands down, they make the perfect seasonal treat. Whether casually made or given as a gift, friends and family alike always savor their blend of textures and tastes. In short, apple butter cookies are a true delight!
Apple Butter Cookies Ingredients
Ingredients which I used to make my apple butter cookies:
1. Apple butter – I chose a nice sweet and spicy variety to infuse the cookies with rich fruity flavor.
2. Light brown sugar – Its moistness and caramel notes blended perfectly with the apple butter.
3. Unsalted butter – Melting the butter made it easy to cream together with the sugars.
4. Rolled oats – Their hearty texture stood out in every bite of the chewy cookies.
5. All-purpose flour – It helped the dough hold its molded shape during baking.
6. Baking soda – Allowed the cookies to rise up just enough while baking.
7. Cinnamon – Just a hint intensified the warm spicy tang of apple already present.
8. Salt – A pinch enhanced all the flavors without being noticeable.
For the icing, I simply mixed powdered sugar, apple butter and cream until spreadable. Drizzling it over the cooled cookies gave a lovely shine and extra layer of moisture. Overall, I was delighted with how these pantry items blended to create such comforting flavors of fall.
Ingredients
½ cup apple butter
⅓ cup light brown sugar
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
1 ¼ cups rolled oats
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of salt
For the apple butter icing
¾ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons apple butter
1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
How I made My Apple Butter Cookies
First, I creamed together the apple butter, brown sugar and melted butter until smooth and blended.
Then, I combined the dry ingredients of oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a separate bowl.
Once mixed together, I chilled the dough for 30 minutes to firm it up before baking.
While the dough chilled, I preheated my oven to 350 degrees F and lined a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Once chilled, I scooped dough balls onto the prepared sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
Baking for 12-15 minutes gave the edges a lovely golden color while keeping the insides chewy.
Allowing the cookies to cool a bit before transferring kept them in one piece.
While they cooled completely, I whisked powdered sugar, apple butter and cream for a sweet glaze.
Drizzling the icing over tie cookies gave them a shiny finish and extra moisture.
The end result was a batch of comforting cookies that truly captured all the flavors of fall.
